Five sights to visit in East Iceland

Iceland, where we were talking about top five tourists attractions in the areas, with eastern part of the country, the guide will be a bit different, we won’t have five famous sights, that are written in every travelling book, however it doesn’t mean that East Iceland is not a place to visit, on contrary you might find this part of the country the most inspiring and remarkable.
It is a gorgeous mountain that is located in the East. The name can be translated as “Door mountain”, and it is due to the fact that there is a gap in the middle of the mountain. It is really a great place for hiking, and don’t forget that according to legends, the Elf Queen lives here. So in case you would like to meet elves, Dyrfjöll is the best place for it!
It is one of the highest waterfalls in the country, but it is more famous for the red clay in between of basaltic layers. Also Hengifoss is one of the best hiking places in East Iceland. It will take approximately an hour to hike from parking lot to the waterfall and due to the stunning landscape, this sight is perfect for taking photos.
Hallormsstaður National Forest is the biggest forest in the country. It is a great place for hiking and camping. There are two camping spots: Atlavik, that has a striking view on Legarfljot lake and Höfðavík, that is located next to a beautiful cove. There are numbers of hiking trails and also there is an opportunity to rent a small boat.
It is a beautiful lake in the East that is surrounded by stunning nature. The biggest forest Hallormsstaður can be seen near the lake. It is also important to mention that you might be able to spot Lagarfljótsormur, it is a worm like monster that is as famous in Iceland as Loch Ness monster in Scotland!
It is a small green island that is located in Fáskrúðsfjörður fjord. In the iceland, you will see large caves. Many years ago fishermen stayed in these caves, while on route to South Iceland.
